NIGERIA EDUCATION HEADING TOWARDS WATERLOO: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS ON THE EFFECT OF NEW ADMISSION CUT-OFF POINT SET BY JAMB ON THE NIGERIA TOMORROW BY ESAN OLUWATOBI

Although much have been said about the issue am about to talk on now, I have read various justifications for it, and I have come across a lot of people, institutions and independent bodies disagree and condemn this development, but then I will be talking from a more analytical and critical point of few with nothing to gain nor lose for any position I hold.
It is no longer news that the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) recently pegged down the entry point of tertiary institutions in Nigeria to 120 and 100 out of a possible 400 point respectively.

Of a truth I must say that Examination is not a true test for a candidate's intelligence but I believe that an intelligent person should be wise enough to stay relevant. If we claim a candidate is intelligence and such candidate is not intelligent enough to find a way of overcoming the stumbling block of an examination to remain relevant, then such intelligence should be questioned.
I am not insinuating that intelligence equates excellent examination performance, but intelligence should at least attain an average or near average to justify its relevance. A lot have argued that the new Jamb policy has given the power of admission into the hands the senate of each tertiary institution. This a quiet commendable, as it allows for individual tertiary institutions to set their standards and be solely responsible for the quality of intakes into their respective institutions. This is a great development in the academics, and JAMB should be commended for that. It will no longer be a case that the quality of Nigeria Undergraduates are bad but the quality of a school is bad, because if I as an institution claim to have a standard of admitting quality intakes that conforms to my standard and after years under my tutelage I produce a below standard graduate, it then means I as an institution which includes all staffs are below standards on the basis that I claim to admit a standard, so whatever drops their standard during their stay with me before I graduate them into the larger society is solely my responsibility.
However, despite the advantage this new standard offers, its disadvantages outweigh its advantages and if care is not taking, we will have nothing called quality graduates in the nation again, considering the 120 and 100 mark standard set by JAMB. The first thing JAMB failed to understand was that, they serve as the ultimately standard and point of reference for Nigeria institutions and if they lower their standard it will definitely have great effect on the nations Education because some institutions who are driven by the desire for Money and Quantity will go by such low standard having them as their point of reference and hence, quality will be a thing of the past in such institutions. However, JAMB might claim such institutions will bear the brunt alone for lack of quality but the question is, are those institutions graduate not been sent into the Nigerian society? Suffices to say that at the long run it affects the quality of the so called Nigerian graduate and by implication the quality in the nation.
Also, we must be aware of the fact that some states in the federation are enjoying some certain privileges under educationally less developed states (ELDS) disadvantage area, State like Ebonyi, Adamawa, Bauchi, Kaduna, among others. Precisely 23 out of 36 states, which is so pathetic as it is already, with this on ground as a way of encouraging people from such state to embrace education, we did not put into consideration that it also affects the standards of education, if I am from such state, the drive to work hard will be lesser than those not from such state and at the end of the day we graduate those two sets into the society, knowing full well we are graduating graduates from the same institutions but with different rating standard, we naturally cannot have a balanced standard in the society, a balance standard here does not mean a universal standard but a level of excellence that is acceptable within a society.
Furthermore, considering the low standard of education already in the Northern part of Nigeria before, with all due respect to them, with JAMB new regulation, it furthers not just destroy the Admission procedures over there, it also destroys the Education System. Before now candidates run to the North and some states with low Education standards because the admission process looks easier and so rejected mediocre in some states will be the champion in another state. With this new policy, its going to drive a lot of traffic to sub-standards schools and locations, permit me to say my use of sub-standard is never an attack nor an indictment on any institution or states, but rather weighing from the universities ranking and EDLS statistics. With much traffic there, the education system is getting destroyed daily.
I was scrolling through to check the daily news on a faithful morning and I got to discover that 23 institutions already approved and abide by the new minimum criteria for admission into tertiary institutions, I was not surprise, because most of the listed schools were private institutions, and we know the priority of most private institutions with all due respect to them, profit maximization. Aside the general aspersion being cast upon the quality, thoroughness and rigidity of the quality of the graduates of most Nigeria private institutions till date, JAMB standard has further given them a leverage ground to continue to foster quantity and profit maximization ahead of quality.
Permit me to say that JAMB's standard is heading the nation's education system towards waterloo as it will no longer give primacy to hard work and quality but rather quantity and money because as time goes on and more traffic is drawn to institutions with this ridiculous cut-off mark, other institutions who are no longer getting candidates as they ought to will be under pressure to lower their admission criteria or have low intakes which will affect their revenue. Although people might argue for a negation of this but if we look at the turn of the 180 cut-off mark set before, we will be sure on the inevitability of this. In past years JAMB takes nothing fall short of 50% mark which is 200 for admission but as soon as it was dropped to 180, most institutions at first did not drop theirs' but as soon as they felt the pressure of the traffic moving over to the other side, they had to compromise, today over 70 percent of Nigeria tertiary institutions have adopted the 180 mark as a standard. If care is not taking this will be the future for Nigeria institutions.
At this point, let me conclude that although JAMB may have other reasons for dropping the admission cut-off, but it is better to seek for better solution than the one they embarked on because it will lead the nation's education system to waterloo. One thing must be at the back of our mind always which is, no matter the way they came into the institution, we are still sending them back to the Nigeria society which is our tomorrow. Whether we like it or not, the effect of the quality we fail to enact will be evident, let a child keep trying and working hard till he or she is a success, if we don't give the foundation a solid structure, the building will in no time collapse and guess what, we all are in the building.

A lot of questions have been raised on this great piece, but let's be patient. For every episode, we will always pick our moral lesson within. The choice of Language a times are intentional to portray some characters.
Eledumare Leave us alone is about a Yoruba conception of the Supreme Being, who created everything. The story exposes us to two great kingdoms under the jurisdiction of Eledumare.
The name of the kingdoms are *ILU-ODE (Foolish kingdom)* and *ILU-Ogbon(Wise Kingdom)*, the inhabitants of this two kingdoms are exactly the replica of the name of their various Kingdoms.
Eledumare who is the supreme being has a faithful servant called *Orunmila* who got married to his only Daughter called *IWA (behavior)*.  IWA gave birth to identical twin who live in the Palace with Eledumare, Ironically, one is very *wise and the other is very foolish*, but Eledumare has been able to tolerate them both.
Do not Forget that Eledumare live on earth, his palace very mighty, located at the very center of the two kingdoms, also with him are his great men of wisdom, council members, servants and everything a king can have.
*It's 99years* since Eledumare has being ruling over this two kingdoms in peace, tolerance and plenty, but something is about to happen as he prepares to enter the 100 year of his reign, it seems *ILU-ODE* are steering up something very strange, could it be  because they are foolish, will they succeed?

Saturday's of every week... Join the episodes and unravel mysteries.

*PURPOSE LESSON- YOU DO NOT HAVE POWER OVER YOUR PROLOGUE BUT WHAT YOUR EPILOGUE WILL BE, WILL BE WRITTEN FROM YOUR ACTIONS. START CREATING THE END YOU DESIRE DAILY.*

[2/4, 09:40] Living Legend: *ELEDUMARE LEAVE US ALONE - EPISODE 1*
At the outskirt of *ILU-ODE (Foolish Kingdom)*, some group of individuals both young and old are gathered under the ancient palm wine tree discussing with a very serious look all over their faces.
We are capable of doing this! he is a wicked and selfish man"* shouted Adelabu one of the oldest man in the community, as he adjusted his cap and sip a little bit of palm wine from the calabash he is holding.
Sule replied *"see, I know I am one of the youngest here, but the truth is, a tree cannot make a Forest, let this be a joint consensus between the two villages, how can we alone decide to send Eledumare away from this kingdom, what if...*Adunni interrupted him, *what if what? Hen! suleee, look as u opening that ya mouth, u wanting the badi people to earr and tell Eledumare abi, talk silently o jaeee"*
The discussion among them went on for several hours, after disagreeing to agree over a lot of things in a calm and solemn manner they finally agreed to send Sule, Adunni and Adelabu to inform *ILU-OGBON (wise Kingdom)* about their plan and find Out if they will be involved.
They all stood up to take their leave when Adelabu beckoned on them to come close "my people, I have told u the implication of what we are about doing, if *ILU-Ogbon* rejects our demands and go ahead to inform Eledumare, we are all *dead!*" Adunni cuts in quickly telling Adelabu not to worry, that she has a plan which she will discuss with them in the next market day on their way to *ILU-OGBON.*
They all place their hands on each others hand as a sign of unity and secrecy. The whole meeting ended as they departed via different path silently as if they never met before.
*Hmmm! Will someone betray this gathering? Will ILU-OGBON accept to join them? What if they did not, will they not inform Eledumare? What exactly is adunni's Plan?*
*PURPOSE LESSON- PLANNING TAKES THE CENTRAL STAGE OF THE FULFILMENT OF YOUR PURPOSE AND DREAMS NO MATTER HOW LITTLE THEY MAY BE. NEVER UNDERMINE ITS ROLE.*

[2/11, 11:50] Living Legend: *ELEDUMARE LEAVE US ALONE- EPISODE 2*
The journey down to *ILU-OGBON* was successful despite having to dodge *Eledumare's* securities at the border.
*Adunni's* plan really worked out well, they found some influential people in the Kingdom, whom they convince to take a prepared mixture of *oil and salt as an oath* not to reveal what they are about telling them to Eledumare nor anyone close to him. After the oath taking, Adelabu and sule revealed there intentions to them, the need for self-governance and pleaded for collective effort to achieve this goal. After the message has been passed, *three out of Five* of the selected people rejected the idea, claiming that they cannot join to partake in such a rebellious act, not even against the *Almighty Eledumare* who can wipe the whole universe out at a single sight. As *Adelabu and Sule* were trying to calm the people down and make them buy this vision, *Adunni* Noticed that the Most influential of them all, *NONSO Nwanchi* sat quietly without altering anything. Adunni quickly ask for Nonso's Opinion about the issue at hand.
*Nonso nwanchi* who is being referred to as a giant because of his big head, stature and the way he carries himself. As Nonso was about to speak, he cut the attention of everyone and the place became as silent as a grave. *"Enh! you see, let me have a meeting quickly with my people first*" so the trio of ILU-ODE excuses them for a while.
Nonso- " *see my people, I was very surprise at your ranting over this issue, if this people we call foolish could think of a great thing like self governance, look at you people that you claim to be wise*",
"oh oh ooo, I was wondering ooo, that was why I refused to join them, I never knew you saw through my heart"* responded Charles who also kept mute.
After much discussion and deliberations they called the trio of *ILU-ODE* and told them they are fully in support of the mission but should give them three days to speak with the members of the Kingdom and sell the vision also to them.
They all parted with joy and optimism. The Trio of *ILU-ODE* embark on a journey to their kingdom very early before day break the next morning so as to deliver the good news to their other members, but on their way, they were stopped suddenly by the *chief Security officer of Eledumare and his servants at the border*, this time they were not smart enough to bypass them.
*Hmmm! What becomes of the trio of ILU-ODE? Is Eledumare awear of there plans? Who sent the Securities? Will ILU-OGBON bye this Vision? Watch out for episode 3.*
*PURPOSE LESSON- Not everybody will reject your dream and purpose.- the bigger your vision, the bigger the connection and partnership demanded.*

[2/18, 12:20] Living Legend: *ELEDUMARE LEAVE US ALONE EPISODE 3*
Two days after the arrival of the three delegates sent to *ILU-OGBON,* people were seen gathered at the venue of the last meeting in *ILU-ODE*, this time the people looked a bit anxious, it seems they were  expecting someone very important to the progress of the meeting. The scene looked silent and tensed a bit as everyone was at alert.
A meeting was concluded last night at *ILU-OGBON,* the agenda for discussion was basically how to be free from *Eledumare* and partner with *ILU-ODE* to achieve this goal among other few issues being raised. Unexpectedly the meeting went so well, the Villagers reasoned with *Nonso Nwanchi*, it was as if he casted a spell on them, the way he arranged his speech was near perfection, although we have some few people who did not buy his idea among the villagers, but their voice had less influence on the determined wise people who believed they will perform far better without *Eledumare* with the level of their wisdom.
At *ILU-ODE* the atmosphere has not change, only that the clock is ticking and the day is getting a little bit dark, *Sule* choose to break the long  silence by making jest of *Adelabu and Adunni*
*Sule- "look at them, two cowards, that was how you were shaking like a hen that is catching cold at the sight of Eledumare's Security officers that day, if not that I was a real man, those guys would have suspected us, and look at it ooo, they only asked us where we were coming from*". *Otueke* who is the shortest among them but with three wives responded to *sule* immediately
Otueke- " *sit down there, man ko mangoro ni, even after you got stocked up with Awele and have refused to marry a second wife, don't you know that the number of wife you have determines your worth in our land*? Don't mind him *Adelabu* responded "I never knew his brain was full of lies until he told the *CSO* that we were coming from a marriage ceremony and immediately the man did not ask further question but asked us to go"
sule interrupted, *"at least the lie saved us from problem, I wonder where we would have told him we were coming from that early, the only thing being done at night is marriage and as for you otueke it is your wife am coming to marry*"
They all burst into laughter, *Otueke* quickly change the mood of the people back to its previous state as he pointed to a dark skinny  man putting on a top and short made with hard *OFI* approaching them with a fainted light in his hand.  Otueke- *"look Could he be the one coming with that fainted light"*
The tension rose so high and everybody became very alert, even as the females among them began to adjust their head tie to cover their faces.
*Hmmm! Who could they be expecting and who is Actually heading towards where they are? Watch out for episode 4*
*PURPOSE LESSON- As infinitesimal as your Composure may be, it matters a lot at the breaking through of any of your Goals and Vision in Life. A lot of people have lost big deals, rejected, got into trouble, disqualified in different things because of lack of Composure.*

[2/25, 13:26] Living Legend: *ELEDUMARE LEAVE US ALONE EPISODE 4*
The tension rose so high and everybody became very alert, even as the females among them began to adjust their head tie to cover their faces. Akeem noticed the people's reaction as he moved closer to them, he was so scared of the people taking him for an intruder and attacking him before they knew who he was, so he decided to scream at the top of his voice to reveal his identity.
*Akeem*- *"I am the one, akeem from ILU-OGBON, I have a message for you"*.
Immediately, everyone became relaxed like an early morning stream. They welcomed akeem very well into their midst, letting him know how long they have been waiting on the response from the people of *ILU-OGBON* so as to know the next line of action.
*Akeem*, who is seated in their midst sipping palm wine from the small calabash in his hand, responded by telling them how majority of the people in *ILU-OGBON* keyed to the vision when *Nonso Nwanchi* spoke to them about it. He assured them of the full support of the people at *ILU-OGBON*.
*Adelabu* who responded to *Akeem* on behalf of his allies, told *Akeem* of their readiness, he also  asked for the exact day the mission will be executed.
*Adelabu- "Akeem*, you see, when are we going to mobilize our kingdom members and your kingdom members so that we can all march to *Eledumare's* palace and inform him of our mission.
*Akeem* adjusted his sitting position, dropped the calabash in his hand, cleared his throat as every one kept their eyes fixed on him.
*Akeem- "you see my people, if it was just to mobilize people, I will not be here today because that is the easiest thing to do, but I was sent here today on another issue"* they all kept mute and concentrated more on what *Akeem* wanted to say as if it was the key to their existence.
*Akeem* informed them about the danger of risking the precious lives of people when they were not sure of what *Eledumare's reaction would be. He told them that over there at *ILU-OGBON*, they think the best thing is to send five delegates, three from ILU-ODE including who will chairman the delegates because they started the mission and two from ILU-OGBON to discuss with Eledumare, then from his reaction, they can now decide on steps to take.  He said the villagers have nominated himself and *Nonso Nwanchi* to be their delegate and they are considering the next 6 market days as the appropriate time to visit *Eledumare* because that day marks the birthday of *IWA's* sons and he is always very happy to celebrate the twin.
As he finished talking, *Adunni* picked it up from there as if it was a contest of who to speak first. She welcomed the idea and added that she has also thought of something like that, keeping her eye fixated on everyone.
*Adunni- "you see that dem this people are even more peparing  than usiii, so now let us chosei our own 3delegati who will join dem to Eledumare's palace"*.  Otueke responded to Adunni immediately,
*Otueke- "that should not be an issue, since this gathering has selected you Adunni, Adelabu and Sule in the past to represent us and you have done greatly, it is still the three of you that will represent us and let Adelabu be the chairman, abi"* turning to the other members who chorused yes, speaking to one and other, in confirmation that he has spoken well.
The three of them agreed to take the responsibility, *Adelabu* informed *Akeem* that himself and *Nonso* should meet them under the ancient coconut tree leading to *Eledumare's* palace early in the morning before the cock crow the third time on the fixed date.
It was already late in the night, *Sule* obliged to accommodate *Akeem* in his house till dawn when he will be leaving for *ILU-OGBON*.
They all parted after performing their usual act of placing their hands on each other as a bonding sign; this time, *Akeem* also took part.
*Hmmm! Will they make it to Eledumare's Palace? Will their instinct about the time to discuss with Eledumare be right? What will Eledumare do when he hears this? Watch out for Episode 5.*
*PURPOSE LESSON- STARTING A PURPOSE, GOAL,MISSION,VISION IS NOT AS IMPORTANT AS UNDERSTANDING THE HOST ENVIRONMENT OF YOUR GOALS, DREAMS ETC. THERE IS HIGH POSSIBILITY OF YOU FAILING AND CRASHING WHEN U DONT UNDERSTAND THE ENVIRONMENT.*

[3/4, 11:12] Living Legend: *ELEDUMARE LEAVE US ALONE EPISODE 5*
Very Early the next morning, *Akeem embarked on his journey back to *ILU-OGBON*. He got there safely without being stopped for any form of questioning by the securities of *Eledumare*.
On getting to *ILU-OGBON*, he informed them about the outcome of the meeting at *ILU-ODE*, the people were happy that *ILU-ODE* supported their idea. *Akeem,* still informing them said
*Akeem: "I told you that this people are too foolish to have an idea of their own, let us use them as a tool for our own freedom and make them serve us"* they all laughed and affirmed that he was right, as they departed to prepare for   *Eledumare's* visit.
*Eledumare* is seated on his golden throne, seated next to him are his two grand Sons, who sat down by his left and right side respectively. Behind him are his gentle looking guards and also with him in the palace are his 18 noble chiefs, seated 9 aside horizontally.
*Eledumare* is discussing with his chiefs, he tells them of the great love he has for them,  amidst many things  he propose to do for them as he clocks 100   on the throne. As he continues showering lovely words on his chiefs, one of his grand son seated next to him interrupted
*Opé: my Lord, sorry for interrupting you,I just got an information that you have a visitor, and the person insisted on delivering the message to you in the presence of everybody in this meeting"*
*Eledumare: really! Who could the person be and what sort of message is that?*
*Opé: My Lord, he is putting on a mask, he pleaded not to open it till he is standing face to face with you and he refused to discuss anything about the message to anybody"*
*Eledumare* discussed briefly with his chiefs in order to seek their consent on whether the man should be allowed in. The chief gave their consent and *Eledumare* ordered one of his guards to bring the man in.
*Hmmmm! who could this man be? Will he be a betrayer? What does he have to say? Watch out for Episode 6.*
*PURPOSE LESSON-  ON YOUR PATH TO PURPOSE FULFILMENT,YOU NEED TO BUILD AROUND YOU A WALL OF TRUSTED PEOPLE, WITHOUT THAT YOUR PLAN IS IN GREAT DANGER.*

[3/11, 11:16] Living Legend: *ELEDUMARE LEAVE US ALONE EPISODE 6*
Anxiety to know who the person is, was written on the faces of everyone seated in the palace, as a tall, dark, lanky man who was putting on mask walked in.
*Eledumare* whose eyes was fixed on him as he walked in, quickly instructed him to remove his mask because he was already in front of him and the council of chiefs.
As the man opened the mask on his face, some hissed, some said, *"as if I knew you were the one, trick star!"* *Eledumare chief security officer* cuts the show of expression by conversing with the man in front of everyone.
*CSO-  "Ajisafe, you have come to beg for food again abi? Lazy man, you knew I will never allow you in if I know it was you, but don't worry, I will catch up with you next time, I promise*. Ajisafe quickly respond to him
*Ajisafe- laughed! Is Eledumare complaining? it is because of you I normally change my trick, my Lord (turning to Eledumare) happy forth coming anniversary oooo, my lord as usual, give us this day our daily bread"*
The council members and Eledumare, bursted into laughter as usual, Ajisafe who is being called *foolish Ajisafe* is a man with funny character and knows how he finds his way to get the things he needs from *Eledumare* and his council members. Just as *Eledumare* continued laughing at his funny but cunning way of appealing, *Eledumare's* two grand sons seated next to him were communicating with signs unknown to other people in the palace.
Suddenly, they both stood up and crave for the indulgence of the members of council to see *Eledumare* in camera.
At first *Eledumare* wanted to resist the call asking them if it was that important that they can't wait till after the meeting or that they cannot discuss it in front of everyone.
The two sons pleaded that it is important, urgent and should be in private, so *Eledumare* took excuse from his council members, and he instructed the provision chief to give *Ajisafe* all he wanted and let *Ajisafe* take his leave as he entered the inner room with his two sons.
*Ajisafe* was provided with all he needed and he hurriedly left the palace as the chiefs await *Eledumare* who is discussing an important issue with his sons.
*Hmmmm! Why did Ajisafe hurried away from the palace, does it have anything to do with what Eledumare and his sons are discussing, what exactly does the two sons have to tell Eledumare, why signs during the meeting? Watch out for Episode 7*
*PURPOSE LESSON- NO MATTER HOW DIFFICULT A WAY MIGHT BE OR HOW TOUGH PROTOCOLS MIGHT BE ON YOUR WAY TO GREATNESS, THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY TO BREAKTHROUGH AND CRACK THE DIFFICULT ROCKS, YOU JUST HAVE TO DISCOVER IT BECAUSE IT'S IN YOU.*
[3/18, 10:40] Living Legend: *ELEDUMARE LEAVE US ALONE EPISODE 7*
*Ajisafe* hurriedly left the palace to give some food to his wife and kid who have been hungry since day break.
*Eledumare* is standing close to the exit door inside the room with his sons, he opened the door and told them everything is under control as he returned back to meet his waiting chiefs. As he was welcomed back to seat by his chiefs he was informed that some group of people requested to pay him a courtesy visit in three days. Eledumare* inquired to know the purpose of the visit. One of the chiefs interrupted before he could conclude his speech. He suggested to him that maybe they were coming to celebrate with him and his two sons, because it happened to be their birthday. Most of the chiefs gave in to that assumption.
In the absence of no further discussion in the palace, *Eledumare* charged the chiefs to make sure all things were set for his centenary celebration. *Eledumare* stood up to take his leave as he was being eulogized till he left the palace. The other chiefs also left in little cliques, discussing.
It's the deal day, everybody around the palace is dressed gorgeously and the celebration mood is evident. People moving in and out of the palace for different purposes, some bringing gift for the Twins among other things. *Eledumare* has performed his usual right of blessing his sons and having fun with them all day. It is evening and the day is winding up gradually, as usual, *Eledumare* is seated on his throne in his meeting room alone, people are going in to congratulate and bid him farewell as the palace premises return back to its usual state gradually.
*Hmmm! "Everything is under control" what does this mean?, where are the five Delegates? Is there a change of plan? What did the Twin tell Eledumare? Watch out for a thrilling Episode 8*
*PURPOSE LESSON- THE EASIEST THING TO DO IS TO ASSUME, BUT IT IS THE MOST DANGEROUS THING TO REALLY ON WHEN PURSUING A GOAL*
[3/25, 08:09] Living Legend: *ELEDUMARE LEAVE US ALONE EPISODE 8*
As the palace was returning back to its usual state, five individuals entered into *Eledumare's* meeting room with gifts in their hands. *Adunni* was in front, immediately she set her eyes on *Eledumare*, she started eulogizing *Eledumare* and congratulating him on his son's birthday, the other four were shaking their body gradually to conform to the rhythm of *Adunni's* chant. They delivered their gifts to *Eledumare*, he was so happy at their display and showered encomium on them.
Eledumare- "My people, you just rounded up my day well, no one has showered me with great praises like this since morning, I am really pleased with you, you said you are representatives of ILU-OGBON and ILU-ODE right?*... They responded yes as they carefully took their seat... *Ask me for anything, I shall give you the very special gift of this day" Eledumare* continued to bless them as he signalled to his guards who quickly served them food, they ate and were merry, as they continued to drop great words at interval about *Eledumare* just to maintain the happy state of his mind.
Immediately after the meal, they all went on their knees as *Adelabu* became their voice.
*Adelabu*- *My Lord, you said we should ask our desire right*... Eledumare said yes and asked them to stand up as they don't have to do that, but they insisted on kneeling... *My Lord what we are about to ask has been thought through for a long time and it is a joint agreement of all the villagers and that is why we are here today*... At this point *Eledumare* Adjusted his sitting position to be more firm and looks very inquisitive as he discharged his guards to excuse them judging by the Facial expression of *Adelabu*... *My Lord (Adelabu continues) you see, the entire villagers loves you and appreciate all you have done, but we have thoroughly thought that we need self governance"*
*Eledumare* asked them what they meant by self Governance, *Adelabu* did well to explain all to him and the other four members complimented him with wisdom, the summary of their discussion was that *Eledumare should Leave them Alone* and return back to his celestial abode where he was before he created mankind. The discussion took several hours as there was serious dialogue, *Eledumare* wanted to know what he did wrong, what led to this insolence among others. By the time they ended the discussion it was already very dark and both parties were already tensed up and raging. *Eledumare* ordered them out of the meeting room which was very unusual of him, an ever caring and loving king to his people. As they stepped outside the palace, *Eledumare* ordered the guards to go after them, immediately they saw the guards of *Eledumare* coming after them, they took to their heels, but unfortunately, Only *Nonso Nwanchi and Sule* were able to escape, *Adunni, Akeem and Adelabu* were bundled back to the palace as they cried for mercy.
Eledumare* who was raging, instructed the guards to execute them that night.
*Eledumare- "good that you caught this ones, let those two pass a message to their allies that any one who dare questions my Authority will be destroyed. Make sure you are on the lookout for those two*... The guards bounded the three of them out for execution leaving Eledumare alone... *Haha this humans are wicked oooo, how could they be so selfish, after all I did for them, well this will serve as a lesson to them all*.
*Hmmm! What next now that the chairman, Adelabu and two others have been killed? Where is Nonso and Sule? To some this is the end, to some the battle as has just began. You cannot afford to miss Episode 9*
*PURPOSE LESSON- EVERY JOURNEY IN LIFE HAS IT'S PEAK OF PULLING DOWN, SCALING THROUGH THAT POINT IS VERY IMPORTANT, SOME CALL IT THE POINT OF THE HIGHEST RISK, SOME CALL IT THE POINT OF MAKE OR BREAK, THAT POINT IS NEVER THE DESTINATION BUT IT DETERMINES THE END*

[4/1, 08:30] Living Legend: *ELEDUMARE LEAVE US ALONE EPISODE 9*
*Nonso and sule* are breathing heavily under a mango tree close to where they will depart to their various homes. *Sule* is in a very sad mood, complaining about the bad occurrence.
*Sule: Nonso! Ha! Is that how we lost Adelabu and the rest on this issue? Who knows what will become of us now? Ha! that Eledumare is wicked and he is a coward"* *Nonso (interrupts): yes, a coward, infact a big one. But no problem, we have started it, go and call the rest representatives from your side and I will call mine, let us meet here at sunset tomorrow, we have to do something urgently, else we lose our lives.*
*Sule: okay, no problem, we shall meet here, but...ha! Adunni, (sheds tears)*. *Nonso* consoled him as they departed.
Very early the following morning, the news of what happened has gone viral in the entire village, everyone naturally prefers to stay indoors and the whole community looks like a grave yard.
Council members are rushing into the palace to confirm the story from *Eledumare* directly. Everyone is seated in the palace, as special eulogy is being chanted by *Abike* just to show support for his reign and supremacy as *Eledumare* take a step into the palace, they all bow down to pay obeisance to him including his guards.  The look on *Eledumare* still shows that he is still upset at what happened, *Eledumare* sat on his throne as he beckoned to all to take their respective positions.
At *ILU-OGBON and ILU-ODE, sule and Nonso* are secretly moving in the precarious community to alert their allies of the intending meeting slated for sunset. Both of them would have been caught several times by *Eledumare's* guard who are on parade but they are outsmarted by the villagers who are doing everything to protect their kins men.
At the palace, different *chiefs* are airing their opinions about the issue, opinions ranging from insulting the delegates who came, commending *Eledumare* for killing them as it will serve as warning to them, and some appealing to *Eledumare* to be merciful and take it easy with his children.
*Eledumare* put an end to the opinion poll by telling them, he has heard all what they said and will take the best decision, but before *Eledumare* ended his speech he asked them a question and he left.
*Eledumare*: my chiefs! Can you imagine a world of your own free from the affairs of mortal and all you do is watch without interfering?
*Eledumare* exited the meeting room as the chiefs move out in clique pondering on what *Eledumare said, some are saying will  Eledumare* bow to the request of this ordinary mortals, the discussion went on amidst them with some expressing an opinion that it can never happen and some already dreaming of the kind of world *Eledumare* asked them to imagine.
It is sunset and we have over two score people gathered at the proposed meeting place with *Nonso and Sule* standing in front of them. Present at the meeting are the wives and husband of the deceased with each spiting fire from their mouth that *Eledumare* must be ready to kill the whole village with what he has started oooo.
*Nonso* was able to calm the raging people as he constantly beg them *"BIKO",* he also instill strength in them by making them believe in the importance of the quest for self governance.

The atmosphere became calm and more determined after *Nonso and Sule's* speech and all they were discussing was a way forward. A lot of them suggested mass protest by the two villages to *Eledumare's* palace, resigning to fate that if he wants to destroy, let him destroy the entire people.
Very few of them were indifferent because of fear, but just as they were about concluding on staging a protest, *Otueke* who is popularly called *Oga na 100 naira*' by the people signaled that he has an alternative suggestion and if it does not work then they can go ahead with the protest.
*Hmmm! Is Eledumare planing of succumbing to Ordinary Mortals, what is Otueke's plan and will this work this time? Watch out for a thrilling episode 10*
*PURPOSE LESSON- NEVER ENVISAGE A SMOOTH PATH ON YOUR WAY TO DESTINY, NOBODY EVER PROMISED YOU IT WAS GOING TO BE EASY, STOP COMPLAINING THAT IT IS NOT EASY, START LOOKING FOR MEANS FOR SAFE LANDING.*

[4/8, 11:45] Living Legend: *ELEDUMARE LEAVE US ALONE EPISODE 10*
*Otueke*- *my people, I think we can't go on a protest just like that, although we lost three valiant people to this struggle, but I still think we should try sending another set of delegates, maybe with that, Eledumare will know how serious we are and that it is a joint quest. I will volunteer to go if only I find people who will join me"* At first everybody disagreed with him, but after sometime, three people decided to join *otueke* to meet *Eledumare* and talk to him, hoping that things will work out well this time. Meanwhile, *Nonso* informed the rest to prepare for a mass protest against *Eledumare* by mobilizing their people to get set as they await *Otueke,Courage,Aunty Emma and Chinedu* who agreed to go and meet *Eledumare* in  six market days.
Sule* also suggested that when the delegates go to meet *Eledumare*, all representative must be gathered at the meeting venue to await their arrival, so as to know the next line of action. He also added that if per adventure there is danger, they should find a way to escape and run straight to the meeting venue, where they will be waiting to defend them. The discussion pleased the people and they all consented to the decision taken. They all disperse to their various homes in the dark with the hope of returning in six market days for the next line of action
At the Palace, the Council just ended a closed door meeting with *Eledumare,* although the palace workers have no idea on what was discussed in the meeting, but a lot of rumor is being carried around the palace premises, ranging from *Eledumare* accepting to return to his abode before he created mankind, *Eledumare* will destroy mankind and create new men among others were the order of the day circulating every nooks and crannies in the palace.

A CRITICAL EVALUATION OF RAPE: LEGAL PROSTITUTION AS THE RESCUE

A CRITICAL EVALUATION OF RAPE: LEGAL PROSTITUTION AS THE RESCUE- by ESAN OLUWATOBI

Sex is as old as the creation of man and can be regarded as one of the greatest or the highest level of pleasure that men derive. Both male and female enjoy the very pleasure of sex even amidst the price of it being painful. It is in the mist of that pain that the pleasure lies. The theory of hedonism by Epicurus positions man to be a pleasure seeking being, hence, man is ready to undergo any form of pain just to get pleasure. Since sex happen to be the highest level of pleasure contextually, the crave of sex by man is as constant as change.
The persistent nature of man to attain this great pleasure of sex has resulted into man going to any extent to achieve this, up to the extent of forcefully having their way on opposite partners.
Rape has been in existence as a very grievous crime towards fellow human beings for ages. The act of forcefully having sex with opposite partner at the detriment of their own personal “free and conscious will” is rape. It must be noted that the practice of rape is in multi-dimensional phases. Husband can forcefully rape their wife; wife can rape their husband, male and female of different family background can rape themselves respectively, rape between family members, females raping male among others. All of this cases are bad and destroying the prestige and dignity of man.
However, we have cases of raping that are done via free will but yet unconscious and due to ignorance of the victim. this cannot be overlooked, for instance, a grown up man deceiving a young child with a sum of 500 naira just to have sex with her, in that case that child can be regarded as been ignorant of what the man is about doing, or a man sleeping with a 4year old girl after giving her #10, all this are absurd and barbaric but still part of rape. This implies that not all cases of rapes are carried out in a forceful manner.
Causes of Rape
We have both physical and metaphysical explanation for an act of rape, never the less we will be picking some empirical and scientifical reasons why man perpetrate this act.
When the sexual hormones in the body over secretes, the desire for sex will be raised and hence, if not properly managed by the individual, it could lead to desperation and forceful diverting of the inborn hug to the opposite sex.
It is a laudable fact that poverty and ignorance has constituted more to the cause of rape in recent time, when people are in quest to search for how they can survive, they come across people with low self instinct who are ready to meet their demands, but because of their refusal to dance to this people’s music, yet want to have their cake, they arose the inner anger of such people who in turn forcefully rape them, perhaps some deceive them and out of their own ignorance they fall.
Men they say are move by what they see, hence immoral and indecent dressing by young teenagers and youth of now a day’s calls for alarm, scientifically, when a man sees a sensitive part of a woman, it registers in men’s memory for a long period of time than you can imagine. The mind with its innate ability to imagine is capable of creating some psychological image which arose the sexual hormones of men. The result is evident.
Watching of phonographs, sexually induces videos, pictures and lack of proper sexual education has also contributed to a reasonable extent to the high record of rape cases that we have witnessed in the past.
Effect of Rape
Wanting to measure all the effect of rape will be like wanting to count the number of sands in the sea, suffices to say, the effect of rape ranges from psychological breakdown, hatred, murder, suicide, lost of dignity and value among other. At this junction, it is important to ask some critical questions.
1.      Can the immoral practice of rape be totally stopped?
2.      Can man stop craving for pleasure?
On the basis of these two fundamental questions, which serve as my anti-thesis, I proffer my thesis. If indeed Epicurus is right, then Aristotle must be right. If man is a pleasure seeking being, then man has a great link with the animal kingdom, and we are only a bit rational than them. It then implies that, man is a rational animal. If man is a rational animal, then Sigmund fraud must be right about his theory of ID, EGO and SUPER EGO.
On this note, one can say that it will get to a point in time, when the desire for pleasure is at his peak, and the super ego can no longer control the innate desire from within, man will have no option than to bring out the animalistic nature in him just to satisfy its sexual desire at that time, hence, the history of mankind and the emergence of rape can never be separated.
Since man is a pleasure seeking being> man can never stop craving for pleasure
If in having sex man gets great pleasure> man can never stop having sex
If willing woman cannot always be there for man to have sex with>rape is inevitable.
On the basis of this short argument, it means for us to cob the rate of rape in the society their must always be women who will be willingly available for man to satisfy their pleasure always. And since this women cannot just give that without taking something in repay, it then lead to a form of business which is PROSTITUTION.
Going by historical basis, it is right to say that prostitution is an ancient business and one of the oldest businesses so to say, aside farming and hunting. Even in religious books, this business of prostitution still find itself there to show how old it is. Since after the desire to eat and have good shelter, the next desire for an average man is to crave for pleasure, hence we cannot sideline and kill this business of prostitution in our society just as we cannot stop planting and hunting.
It is evident that a lot of people will subscribe to religion as a rescue for rape, but even if the whole world turn into religious house, the whole world cannot still be free from crime and sexual immoralities because, man was created with that desire and when it goes out of hand, no measure can be used to restrict that animal nature in man until it satisfies its desire. So the best rescue is to find how to cob rape.
Of a truth, we cannot say prostitution is not totally good, yes, there are evil in it, and it pose great threat to human existence most especially through the spread of deadly diseases, but we must understand the very fact that even if prostitution is abolished totally, we will still have prostitute and sexual immoralities will not stop which is a more greater danger than prostitution being allowed itself, hence, why not create a suitable environment for prostitution which will pose lesser threat to the existence of man and reduce the spread of diseases. This suitable environment for prostitution will lead to my synthesis.
Since, the thesis argues for prostitution, then, there is a need for the government to come out with well organized policy to make sure that prostitution is a real business duly registered under the law, any one involve in prostitution or want to be a prostitute should be registered with the government and must be health-wisely fit.
For those who have communicable and deadly disease already among the prostitute, government should make sure they go for medical service always and restrict all prostitute from having unprotected sex, if anyone is discovered to have an unprotected sex, such person should be sentenced to jail term, both the prostitute and the person who patronizes her.
Prostitute should be moved away from staying on the street and be confined in some area as directed by the government for proper monitoring and regular healthy checking of the prostitutes.
Any prostitute who is going for home service must get the approval from the appropriate authority and must be tested before been admitted back  into the mist, hence people in charge of prostitution issue must be experienced counselors who are both rigid and flexible and must be essay to access at any point in time by the prostitutes.
There should be a law to melt out capital punishment for anybody involve in rape, so anybody who cannot control his sexual pressure should find a prostitute lodge around or call for home service and pay.
On a final note a well organized and package prostitution which is being anchored by the government is what I call LEGAL PROSTITUTION, this I prescribe to be the logical rescue to high rate of rape in the society.
On this note I submit by saying every synthesis can still become an anti-thesis, hence, the only rescue that will have no further anti-thesis is Jesus Christ. Its pays to give your life to him. I remain the VOICE OF THE VOICELESS

ADMISSION CRITERIA IN NIGERIA: A NEED FOR CRITICAL EVALUATION

ADMISSION CRITERIA IN NIGERIA: A NEED FOR CRITICAL EVALUATION BY ESAN OLUWATOBI DAVID
Education has often been described as the key to success and the backbone of a successful society. Lack of education was said to be the pioneer cause of African colonialism and enslavement, this propelled a lot of African nations to thoroughly invest in the education sector after they gained their independence.
Although we cannot shy away from the basic fact that the percentage of allocation being awarded to the education sector now has reduced drastically and the first love for education is dwindling daily.
Taking a critical look at the cause of this dwindling one might say that, just has every business expect profit at the end of sales, the expected profit people get after being educated is not in commensuration with the effort and pressure people in recent times put on it, hence it makes education a loss business for people who quest after it.
The frustration of people for what they get after being educated has been summarized with this sarcasm “when we were young, we were told that education is the key to success, so we decided to purse that key so well, only to discover that the padlock has been changed after we got the key, which is education”
I will not dwell on the various challenges being faced by education in Nigeria today; rather I will pitch my tent with the new criteria for entering into tertiary institution today. The adoption of these new procedures started over a year ago, and it is impatient to bring out the implication of this process to our education system and the potentials of our dear nation.
It is no longer news that post UTME has been scrapped and the cumulative score of jamb and grade point of students O’Level results are the major yardstick for admission processing in Nigeria today.
Of a truth, this very system has its own advantages, ranging from improving the education standard of intakes into tertiary institutions which will to some extent stop the abnormalities involve in the process of post UTME ranging from bribery and Nepotism, it also help the sub-conscious mind of students to get more serious with their studies among other rare benefits.
Nevertheless, the system could not stop the exploitation of money from admission seekers as money is still been collected for screening just as in the days of paying for post UTME, so of what effect is the scrapping of post UTME?
More so, from the first year of its practice, we have seen a lot of students with very high score in both Jamb (above 300) and very good O’Level results (above 5 distinctions) not getting admitted, of course the competition it has brought to the system is great, but we must also be conscious that it will constantly relegate the best outside what they planned for and if care is not taken it will increase the rate of secondary school dropouts in the nation, as the competition will squeeze majority out, and if private institutions cannot be affordable for them, we risk losing great potentials to the street.
This system in coming years will increase pressure on student to want to achieve, and continuous pressure will lead to desperation among students, because even the very best are not been admitted in the best schools and if they will get admitted, they will have to settle for lesser schools who won’t have the capacity to build great quality in them. Consistent desperation among secondary school students just to attain A’s might in no time bring about a do or die educational system and increase the rate of examination Malpractice in the nation. Students will look for every means possible to get the desired distinctions needed for their proposed course.
More so, in coming years, we will find the very best students in the secondary schools fighting for places in the polytechnics and colleges of education due to the high standards that universities are demanding from students in their O’level. This will in turn lower the general standard of education in the nation. I am not saying setting very high standard is wrong, but we must be realistic and considerable in setting such standards. Students will prefer to run to institutions with lower standards and at the end will become products of mediocrity.
It is not a gain saying that most universities in the northern part of Nigeria has very lower standard with all due respect to them, compared to does in the west, now if the universities in the west set all distinctions as a criteria for gaining admission, someone with distinctions but could not meet up with the high standard of the universities in the west could go to the north to study the same course, at the end we produce graduate from the two institutions into the society. The difference is lucid, both students are excellent students but one process of learning is thorough than the order, but they will both end up in the society.
The same post UTME that was scrapped happens to be the basis for most people who are now dictating standard’s today life line for admission, how many of them can boost of having the set criteria for each course they studied today? How many doctors have 5 or 6 A’s at one sitting in their O’level, how many professors, directors, senators, policy makers among others, how many can boost of that? Can we have over 50% of them per discipline? They have also benefited from either using two sittings, having one or two A’s with mixture of B’s and credit, they have benefited from scoring above 200 in jamb and their post UTME result pave way for their admission not their O’level result. If it is by O’level result most of them will never have seen the four walls of tertiary institution today.
However, in a nation that is not given too much cognizance to sponsoring and supervising the education sector has before again, unpaid teachers’ salaries and other allowances happens to be the order of the day, from where does the teachers get motivation to impact such knowledge standards into their students, when they have even lose passion for the job, yet the education criteria and standard of acquiring higher knowledge keep increasing.
The underlining basis of the write up is to in treat the consciousness of tertiary institution on the implication of setting relatively too great a standard on the ground of maintaining a status quo, as it will in no time backfire on the society. If standards are getting too unrealistic for students to attain, human by nature will look for a substitute and an alternative, looking for a substitute is never the problem, but the quality of the substitute is the issue, which in no time will revolve round the society.
To the policy makers, it is a well known fact that change is a constant thing but if we have to change from an old way of doing things, the advantage of the new one should far out way the old one. On the issue of admission, the new policy should strive towards improving the standard and quality of tertiary institutions intake, but it should at the same time be annexed towards improving the level of literacy in the society.
If this new policy continues the way it is been done in its first year of inception, in no time we will either have great numbers of secondary school drop outs in the society or the society will be filled with a lot of educated illiterate or educated mediocre, either of the case it is bad for the nation.
I submit by saying that a critical evaluation be done on the new admission policy in Nigeria as another Jamb and secondary schools final examination approaches.
